Rent Grace Period

There is no rent grace period in the state of Louisiana. If the rent is not paid on the agreed-upon day, the landlord may serve a 5-day notice to quit.

Security Deposit

Maximum Amount – There is not a maximum amount a landlord may charge for a security deposit.

Returning – The tenant must receive their security deposit back within one month of the lease’s end. (ยง 9:3251(A))

  • Deductions – If the full security deposit is not returned, the landlord must provide a list showing any deductions. (RS 9:3251(A))
  • Tenant Doesn’t Forward New Address – Tenants have 90 days to provide their new address or forfeit the deposit.
