After they complete and sign the non-refundable application, the landlord may run a background or credit check on the individual to verify employment and income. After the verification process and within 48 hours, the landlord may approve or deny their rental request.

Maximum Fees ($)

Application Fee – There is no maximum amount a landlord may charge for an application; however, they must return any funds over $25 not used for the screening process within fifteen days. (§ 8-213)
Security Deposit – Two months is the maximum amount a landlord may charge for a security deposit. (§ 8–203(4)(b))
